This new strategy identified that large quantities of critical minerals are in products we use today, including end-of-life electric vehicle batteries. As critical minerals become increasingly difficult to find and extract from the ground, it will be important to make best use of those already in circulation, through a circular economy.
Through this strategy, the UK will:
- accelerate growth of the UK’s domestic capabilities
- collaborate with international partners
- enhance international markets to make them more responsive, transparent and responsible
Altilium Metals under its subsidiary company Altilitech is supporting the UK strategy by developing hydrometallurgy technology to deliver superior returns of lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries as well as off spec material from cell producers and battery material producers. The extracted metals under the process developed will be used to produce Cathode Active Materials (CAM) directly to be reintroduced into the supply chain supporting the circular economy and supplying rare a critical metals.
