Altilitech has developed a closed loop process with no direct carbon emission to recover critical and scarce metals lithium, nickel and cobalt for reuse in lithium-ion batteries. Recycling spent batteries reduces carbon emissions by 38% and material costs by 35% compared to virgin mining, lowering EV battery costs and increasing adoption of EVs.

Achieving net-zero and rapid decarbonisation of the UK economy is directly connected to the supply critical metals, as the energy transition is so mineral intensive. The UK does not have domestic sources of critical metals for the energy transition, so the recycling of lithium-ion batteries is an opportunity for the UK to realise energy security.
