The European Critical Raw Materials Act and Net Zero Industry Act were announced by the European Commission this week signifying a positive step forward for European critical raw materials supply security and independence basis its transition to net zero and electrification of transport.
The addition of copper to the Critical Minerals list will allow for streamlined regulations and faster development of new supply sources to meet future demand.
It is also expected the Acts will give Altilium Metals improved access to public financing.
- Our Medet recycling initiative will reduce harmful hard rock copper mining, clean up the contaminated site and provide an important source of copper to a European battery Industry.
- Copper is key for battery anode current collectors as well as electric motors and charging stations in the electrification of transport. Currently, we only have enough copper for 30% market penetration of electric vehicles.
- Our 2,200 ha copper rich resource and SX-EW plant is located in central Bulgaria and originate from tailings waste at the former Medet and Assarel copper mines between 1964 until 1999.
Altilium Metals vision is that the technology metals needed for the energy transition will come from existing waste streams and we will reshape the battery supply chain with a high volume, sustainable source of anode and cathode materials for reuse in new cells.
